Uh, wow!
Today, genuinely, has been incredible, all thanks to you — it has made not just my day, week, or month, but year. As I’m sitting down, trying to type this out, I am at a loss for words; I can’t articulate how much gratitude I have to express. Throughout the past day, it has been a joy to see everyone interact with the application, share such kind words, and give suggestions on how to improve. As the day wore on, I thought it only fitting to sit down and try to express some of what’s going on in my mind.
One: I’m simply staggered. Back in the cold month of January, while I was confined inside, I pondered what my next project should be. Sitting on my desk was one of my most cherished possessions, an iPhone 4 still on iOS 4; I have always loved this device, so much so that I often go out with it instead of my daily driver. What soon became apparent to me was that I didn’t have to lug this device around when I could build my own version. In the beginning, I thought this would be a small project, something to entertain me in my free time, but it wasn’t. I soon realized that if I were going to do this, I would do it right. Moreover, I was adamant about using SwiftUI — I wanted to prove to myself that it’s ready for primetime. Fast forward to today. After months of work, I put this out into the world. I wasn’t expecting all that much, but my mind has, simply put, been blown. Seeing so many people I deeply admire using a piece of software I created and sharing their experiences has both excited and humbled me. I’m more confident than ever that social media can bring out the best in us. All of your kind words about the app are deeply reassuring, motivating, and empowering.
Two: there’s so much ahead of us. What’s so important to a developer is feedback. You all have submitted bug reports, presented issues, and are actively working to better the app. I’m so grateful for all of this, and it will all go to bettering the app. After responding to all of you, my first priority will be to start working on the next build to resolve some of the most critical bugs.
Three: I’m just so excited — there’s so much more to be done. So, to answer some questions, here’s what’s on my agenda:
1. Fixing bugs that have been reported.
2. Finalizing the remaining applications.
3. Adding more features to flesh out the operating system (multitasking, etc).
4. Building additional apps (Twitter, Facebook, games).
5. Extending to iPads.
6. Branching out past iOS 4.
7. Anything else that you have to suggest.
In closing, I wanted to reiterate my gratitude. I never expected this, and I am so excited for what the future holds!
Thanks as always,
Zane 👋
